Artist's Statement

“To thine own self be true.”   Over the years this Shakespearean sentiment has moved to the center of my thought process, where my approach to art and life are concerned.  Is the artwork honest? Does it accurately reflect my sentiments?

The problem is, I don't always know my sentiments, my thoughts or my feelings on any given subject at any point in time. I often have to stand back and look at my work in progress and ask myself, “Where am I going with this?”  “Where do I want to go with this?”

My art never happens all at once. It happens over time.  Thank God for that because I get to take a break.  I get to step back into my life and the people I love.  In discussion with them, an alignment of thoughts emerges; I get a more accurate look at myself.  After that I am back on the canvas.

It's a beautiful process:  Life stretches over the expanse of time, and people.  Awesome!

                   Anyway...
